Skid Row San Julian Mural
San Julian Street is the very " HEART" of the Skid Row Community and as a resident, a local artist and a community advocate of empowerment, it should reflect the " beauty and cultural " the neighborhood...it should not be the " dumping ground " for outsiders.
After decades of " disrespect ", residents, friends and supporters decided that SKIDROW should have a facelift. So, in 2008, OPERATION FACE LIFT/SKIDROW was born and to demonstrate the talent and human resources of our community, and because San Julian Street is the heart of the neighborhood...the SAN JULIAN MURAL was done. It took over 8 months and hundreds of hours to complete...
These photographs start where the " mural "began at SAN JULIAN & 7TH. It went North towards 6TH Street. There were so many " artists " that worked on this Community Project, for no money, just to show the talents, and gifts that our community and friends possess.
It started out by " reminding everyone " that SKID ROW IS HOLY GROUND...this community has been good to everyone that I know.
The Community Mural
The Community Mural did not just consist of the artists paintings. Everybody "can't paint ", don't want to paint, or they believe that they can't paint. So, others expressed themselves in another medium...the written word.
